SKA worked in collaboration with national and international partners to develop over a period of three years a sustainable avocado supply chain between farmers in the Limpopo Province of South Africa and a prominent Dutch retailer. A group of smallholder farmers and a community owned farm collectively employing over 600 workers from the community were included in the programme. SKA supported both groups through gap analysis and implementation of corrective actions to become SIZA certified and gain access to a new sustainable export market channel. The work also included the business analysis of the smallholder and the community farm operations and the development of tailormade business development workshops and training to increase HR management, market access and profitability.
