Swaziland Sugar Association Sustainability Assessment

We were contracted by the Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) to conduct a baseline assessment of the Swazi Sugar Industry against international sustainability standards as well as focal areas identified by national stakeholders. The assessment included reviewing existing documentation, interviews with key actors in the sugar supply chain, interviews with employees at the mills, and focus groups with planters. In addition to many good practices already in place, the respondents were encouraged to devise improvement strategies for other areas where they identified gaps. The assessment will enable SSA, the mills and the producers to develop improvement plans for a more sustainable Swazi Sugar Industry.
